It’s official: the U.S. Senate has voted to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to fill the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat on the Supreme Court.
The future of healthcare access, reproductive rights, workers’ rights, and LGBTQ rights are now all at risk and will be for decades with the Supreme Court’s ultra-conservative, 6-3 majority.
But there’s a possible solution: expanding the court by increasing the number of Supreme Court justices. There’s nothing in the Constitution that dictates the size of the Supreme Court, and it has fluctuated in size from as few as five to as many as 10 before settling at the current number of nine justices.
